Types of Sleep Dentistry

Sleep dentistry involves the administration of medication or anesthesia to help patients relax during dental procedures. At MV Dental, we have access to an onsite GA theatre. In cases where GA isn’t required, we are also able to use oral anxiolytic medications to relax our patients and allow our dentists to perform the necessary dental treatments.

General Anaesthesia

This is a great option if you have a severe dental phobia or need complex dental work done as it will keep you asleep for the entirety of the procedure!

Oral
Sedation

You can also be sedated by consuming a pill or liquid. You will most likely still be aware, but relaxed with this method.

Sleep Dentistry Q&A

Sleep dentistry requires an Anaesthatist to be onsite in a General Anaesthetic environment to allow a dentist to work with a sedated patient. Some dentists offer these services at hospitals or at day surgeries. At MV Dental, you can dodge those hassles and get onsite access with the ease our facilities. Typical procedures that are completed with us under General Anaesthetic include:

  • Dental implants
  • Extractions
  • Fillings
  • Deep Cleans

To minimize too much time under General Anaesthetic, we typically use Oral Sedation in cases of Root Canal Treatment, or Crown/Bridge/Veneer preparations.

No, you will be unaware and relaxed during your procedure and unable to recall the process.

Not everyone qualifies for sleep dentistry at our onsite location. In some instances a hospital setting is still recommended and/or required. Examples of these cases may include but are not limited to:

  • Key organ conditions (e.g. some heart/lung/kidney/liver conditions)
  • Age (below 12 or above 70)
  • BMI (very high BMI may require additional supports)
  • Moderate-Severe Disability
